Vacancy Description

Practice Development workstream lead (PO8) – 12 month fixed term contract

Waltham Forest is an ambitious place.

We are ambitious for our people, our communities and our services.

A big part of our ambition lies in the delivery of our “Think Family” approach - looking outward, not inward; working alongside families and the community, doing with not to; and supporting people to find their own solutions to the challenges they are facing.

This means rethinking and reshaping the way we do practice and workforce development across our Families and Homes Directorate. And that’s where you come in.

Working alongside our practice and workforce development leads as well as senior management and our transformation team, you will help us to answer some key questions to take us on the next stage of our journey as well as taking the lead in shaping and commissioning our overall workforce delivery programme, staff engagement and communications, training needs analysis and the measures we will use to provide management with the assurance that the practice model is having the right impact.

We are a supportive, challenging and inspirational Directorate, striving towards the shared purpose of achieving independence, choice and the best possible results for our service users. You will help us to become a centre of excellence and best practice, building on the strong foundations we have laid over the last 24 months.

In return for your hard work, we will give you the time and active support you need to make a difference. Promoting creativity is at the heart of our agenda, and means you will be encouraged to share ideas, bring about positive change and strive to continuously improve outcomes for our residents.

We’re looking for individuals who are driven to improve public services and have significant practical experience of delivering successful, high-profile practice development approaches that have made a demonstrable difference.

You should have strong analytical skills, an ability to generate energy and excitement about change, the ability to work to tight deadlines and a strong drive for personal and professional development. But above all, it’s your excellent interpersonal skills that will help you stand out – we’re looking for someone with the ability to challenge how we work together in sensitive and constructive ways. You must have the ability to quickly establish credibility with practitioners and experience of successfully influencing senior stakeholders within a complex organisation.

About the Families and Homes Directorate

We have recently restructured our Families and Homes Directorate to reflect our Think Family Target Operating Model. We have established five Corporate Director posts for Communities, Wellbeing and Independence, Care and Support, Housing and Commissioning (with our CCG partners).

We’re excited about the future for Waltham Forest, and for the Families and Homes Directorate and we are looking for driven, dynamic and forward thinking individuals who share our ambition for change.

If you would like an informal discussion about the opportunity, please contact Lindsey Hyde via lindsey.hyde@walthamforest.gov.uk.

Equal Opportunities
Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population.

We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace.

The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives contained within the Waltham Forest Council Equality Plan 2012/2015:

- Promoting equality of opportunity

- Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage

- Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels.
