Vacancy Description

 

Highway Network Group is responsible for the maintenance and management of about 420km of roads, 900km of footpaths and over 100 highway bridges and other structures.

As Principal Engineer – Highway Maintenance you will be responsible for the assessment, planning and undertaking of all maintenance and improvement activities on the fabric of the Borough highway network in order to ensure that the council meets its priorities and aspirations with regard to upgrading its roads and footways. This includes taking ownership of the Highway Asset Management Plan, review and update annually taking into account all relevant regulations, codes of practice and current standards.

The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge and experience of current practices, materials, specification, legislation and codes of practice relating to highways maintenance and management including developing asset management strategies and future work programmes.

Also you are expected to possess excellent communications and personnel management skills and have detailed knowledge and experience of civil engineering project management and contract administration.

The role will require developing a close working relationship with elected members, residents and businesses in managing the aspirations of local communities in relation to the highway network.
