Chief Executive’s Office

Executive Officer

£43,734 - £46,578

A high-profile opportunity has arisen at the heart of Waltham Forest’s Chief Executive’s Office

Waltham Forest is a place where people want to live, raise a family and start a business, and in case you haven’t heard we are also the first London Borough of Culture in 2019.

All this means that the organisation is working at a fast -pace to ensure we deliver thought-through and targeted services for our residents as well as developing our exciting plans to be in the spotlight for 2019 and beyond.

This role sits within the Chief Executive’s Office and to say you’ll need to keep many plates spinning would be an understatement. We’re looking for someone who can manage a diverse range of projects on behalf of our Chief Executive, while keeping him up to date with internal developments and the latest goings-on externally, both in London and nationally. No two days will be the same, so it’s essential that you’re a self-starter, naturally curious, and comfortable adapting to a constantly changing environment.

You will bring powerful credentials to the Chief Executive’s office, to work closely alongside the Chief Executive, his Management Board, our Leader and Cabinet and a wide range of high-profile stakeholders, including external bodies across Government, business and beyond.

It’s a busy and demanding role, so we’re looking for a pro-active, energetic individual who has a good understanding of politics and the political process, as well as previous experience of working with senior politicians. It goes without saying that you’ll be a first-class communicator with the gravitas and credibility to influence at a senior level.  You will have well developed research and organisational skills and the ability to quickly grasp issues and turn them into briefings for the Chief Executive.  You’ll also be accustomed to working flexibly on your own initiative, to work across the team and assist colleagues where necessary and to respond sensitively and imaginatively to a wide range of issues

The successful candidate will have:-

Advanced verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to prepare written and oral briefings under time pressure.
Excellent political judgement.
Excellent organisational and administrative skills and evidenced project management and monitoring capabilities and experience.
Strong individual initiative.
The ability to prioritise a stretching and varied workload.
The ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with a range of people.
Flexibility and willingness to work as part of a team
