Vacancy Description

Strategic Financial Advisor Corporate up to £68,000, pay award pending

Right now there is a real buzz about Waltham Forest following the announcement that we are the first London Borough of Culture. It is a place where people want to live, raise a family and start a business. Since 2010 we have reshaped our Council to deliver substantial savings, to improve our services and invest in the future. Despite the significant financial challenges we have delivered a balanced budget every year and we have a clear vision as set out in our medium term financial plan which runs up to 2023. The Council has embarked on a new vision called “Creating Futures” and effective management and use of our resources is essential to our success.

As the corporate Strategic Financial Advisor you will be responsible for the development of the Council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy which is the main tool used to manage the annual financial planning and budget cycle. You will coordinate the overall financial and budget planning process and will manage and monitor the service requirements as part of the business planning cycle with a view to maximising effectiveness, efficiency and outcomes of the Council’s scarce revenue resources.

You will combine a high level of technical acumen with the ability to translate strategy and plans into operational plans that underpin the Council’s activities. We want people who are at the top of their game, that think creatively and will help prepare the council for the financial challenges ahead as we approach 2020 and the new local government finance system. We are looking for strong corporate leadership, combined with excellent communication skills and someone who is comfortable working at all levels to help develop the service for the benefit of our residents.

 Closing Date: 31st May 2018

Equal Opportunities

We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace.

The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives contained within the Waltham Forest Council Equality Plan 2012/2015:

- Promoting equality of opportunity

- Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage

- Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels.

- Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all.

Respecting Diversity is a core Council value.
