Waltham Forest is ambitious about its Creating Futures Transformation plan and we have set out five guiding principles that are intended to shape the Council’s future plans.

  • Our unique strengths: building on what’s best about our borough
  • Return on investment: always getting maximum value from our resources
  • People focussed: providing 21st century services that meet people’s needs
  • New relationships: building deeper relationships with our partners and a new relationship with our community
  • New ways of working: creating an agile council that is more digitally driven and more commercially minded.

Over the past few years, Waltham Forest has changed drastically as a place. Good schools, great parks, excellent culture facilities, mass regeneration and budding community entrepreneurship are making it a place that people want to call home.

Over this period of change, Waltham Forest as a council has seen its highest ever levels of resident satisfaction despite increasing scrutiny on public sector budgets and a rise in demand for our services. As funding reductions continue, Waltham Forest is creating a council for the future.

Housing is huge on the council’s agenda and to reflect this, the housing service joined the families directorate to ensure families are supported to be more resilient and services are joined up. The council sees a strong link between housing, health and social care and is looking for the right people who share this vision.

About the role

You will detect and deal effectively with perpetrators of tenancy fraud, working in partnership with the Council’s temporary accommodation providers and the Corporate Anti-Fraud Team (CAFT) to prevent and take action in relation to the subletting and abandonment of the Council’s temporary accommodation stock and where appropriate fraudulent housing applications.

You will ensure that property standards are met across our temporary accommodation portfolio by working collaboratively with accommodation providers. You will also ensure that providers comply with contract specifications, where necessary recommend sanctions such as with-holding payments and or other actions to address serious cases of dangerous conditions.

You will liaise with our Options & Assessment Team where it is deemed appropriate for the Council to discharge its homelessness duty.

You must be excited about the opportunity to work in an innovative, challenging and customer focused organisation.

Equal Opportunities

Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population. We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace. The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives: - Promoting equality of opportunity - Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage - Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels. - Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all. Respecting Diversity is a core Council value. To support the above and reduce the risk of bias in its recruitment activities, the council is operating an anonymous shortlisting process, which hides personal information that can identify individuals until their application has been considered for shortlisting. The council also operates a scheme whereby, for jobs graded up to and including scale SO2, internal candidates are considered first. This includes those candidates who self-identify as having a disability for the purposes of the Disability Confident scheme.
