About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for customer focused; target driven and experienced Review Officers to join our team. You will be contributing to the increasingly important work of the Council’s Housing Solutions Service to support households in the Borough that are in need of housing assistance.

We are seeking to appoint x2 Review Officers to conduct statutory reviews under s160A (9), s202 of the Housing Act 1996 and the additional grounds of Reviews as proposed under the Homelessness Reduction Act. The Reviews Team plays a critical role in ensuring vulnerable residents receive housing assistance they are statutorily entitled to and that the Service’s decision are of a high quality and made in accordance with legal requirements. Your role is pivotal and crucial to the successful implementation of the HRA, as you will be making the first ever decisions under the new legislation, and setting precedents.

You will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out statutory homelessness and allocation reviews.
  • Carrying out reviews of decisions made under the Prevention/Relief Duty with effect from April 2018.
  • Assisting with improvement of casework and decision making process.
  • Attending Court to assist the Council’s Legal Services and instructed barristers when required.

About You:

You will:

  • Possess a depth of knowledge and understanding of the homelessness and allocations legislation, case law and code of guidance, along with a strong track record of casework management and decision making. An ability to work and think independently is essential, as is the ability to react appropriately and urgently to emerging situations.
  • Have excellent communication and networking skills to build positive relationships and challenge constructively in order to improve and support service development.
  • Demonstrate an understanding, and awareness of housing need, homelessness issues, relevant legal context and associated service provision;  Possess e a solid grasp of best practice required to deliver excellence within their own casework and ability to apply this within a wider quality assurance, and case review context.
  • Effective in organising, planning and prioritising and be able to demonstrate a track record of making appropriate decisions and securing positive outcomes with complex casework.
  • Maintain an understanding of our customer base, provide a customer centred reviews service and manage customer expectations.
  • Drive service improvement initiatives, integrating good practice within the service delivery model.
