Suntrap is the environmental education centre for the London Borough of Waltham Forest, situated in its own 7 acres of grounds (including meadow, woodland and ponds) beside Epping Forest. We work with school and other groups to deliver high quality environmental education activities for children & young people, adults and families from 2 ½ years upwards.
We are seeking someone who has experience of working with children and young people and wishes to pursue a career in environmental education. You will be required to deliver high quality outdoor environmental educational activities with the support of senior staff, and work within a small team.
Other duties will include care of our collection of animals (including hens, rabbits, snakes, salamanders, hissing cockroaches and stick insects), overnight duties on site during camping season (April-July), occasional weekend working and grounds maintenance work.
Applicants should possess:
A good quality degree in ecology, biology, geography, environmental sciences or closely related subject
Ability to work flexibly as part of a small team including maintenance of habitats and grounds
An interest in the natural world
Experience of working with children and young people
Appointment to this position is subject to the successful candidate receiving full clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
