Vacancy Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, customer-focussed finance professional to deliver comprehensive finance support to our Education sector customers and the internal council services which serve them.

Waltham Forest is vibrant and diverse with a growing cultural scene and more green space than any borough north of the Thames. Coupled with great transport connections to the city and beyond it is a fantastic place to live and work. We are working at pace to deliver our Redefining Waltham Forest 2020 vision and create a Council that is resident-focused, insight-led, digitally-driven and commercially-minded. We are looking for the right people to make this a reality and with the Council’s strong track record of providing a variety of career pathways this is an exciting opportunity not to be missed.

You would be joining WF Traded Services (  , a specific unit within Waltham Forest Council which was established in April 2016 to oversee and support all of the Council’s traded work with schools and the greater education community and provide a central point of contact for these customers.

Using SAP financials and other in house systems you will prepare high volumes of invoices on a monthly basis and ensure they contain the necessary information to meet financial guidelines and facilitate timely payment for all of the Council’s Traded Services. You will issue statements as part of monthly debt control process and demonstrate an organised approach to reducing the aged debt. Working under the supervision of the Traded Services Accountant and Operations Manager you will be able to input your own ideas and experience into simplifying financial processes and improving the customer experience both internally and externally and should therefore have an innovative, problem-solving approach to finance.

You will be the first point of contact for financial queries from our internal services as well as customers, most of whom are schools. Finance experience within the Education or Public sectors would therefore be valuable. In order to provide customers with up to date, accurate information on purchases and debt along with a pleasant customer experience you will need to be someone with strong financial acumen, who enjoys regular customer interaction and can multi-task effectively. Someone working towards accounting qualifications or wishing to do so would gain excellent experience in this role.
